Make a ringtone from a song

Make a ringtone from any song: pick the part you want to hear when the phone rings and save it for iPhone (M4R) or Android (MP3). The song stays on your device; we never receive it.

MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG and more · the sound of a video too

Ringtone maker for iPhone and Android

A good call sound is short, starts on the catchy bit and doesn’t blast from the first note. This ringtone maker opens the cutter ready for that: 30 seconds selected, the iPhone format chosen.

Which format your phone needs

  • iPhone: M4R, up to 40 seconds. A longer one is refused, so the page warns you and offers Shorten to 40 s.
  • Android: a plain MP3 of any length.
  • Two phones? Save the same cut twice, once in each format.

Put it on an iPhone

  • iOS 26 and later, no computer: save up to 30 seconds as MP3 or M4A, open it in Files, tap Share and choose Use as Ringtone.
  • Mac: connect the iPhone, select it in the Finder sidebar and drag the M4R onto its window.
  • Windows: drag the M4R onto the iPhone in the Apple Devices app or iTunes.
  • Older iOS, no computer: import the MP3 or M4A into the free GarageBand app and share the project as a ringtone. It keeps 30 seconds.
  • Then choose it in Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Ringtone.

Set a custom ringtone on Android

Save the MP3 to the phone, then open Settings → Sound and vibration → Ringtone and add it from your files. You can also move the file into the Ringtones folder first. Menu names differ between phone makers.

Tips for a better call sound

  • Start right on the beat or the first word of the chorus, not on silence: the first seconds are the ones you hear most.
  • Switch on Smooth start and end so the sound fades in gently.
  • 20 to 30 seconds is plenty: a call rarely rings longer.
  • Song too quiet next to the built-in tones? Raise it in the audio volume tool first.
