Increase MP3 volume

Increase MP3 volume for a song, a podcast or a voice memo, or turn it down. Your file stays yours: we never receive or store it. The wave shows the change before you save.

MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG and more

How it works

  1. Open a fileChoose an MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC or OGG file.
  2. Set the levelMove the slider, or pick Even it out, and listen.
  3. Save itPress Save audio. The format stays the same unless you change it.

Make audio louder or quieter

A voice memo recorded too far from the phone. An old track much quieter than the rest. A ringtone you can’t hear in a pocket. One slider fixes each of them.

Up to 400 %, without crackle

Drag the slider from Quieter through As is to Louder in 5 % steps, or tap a quick pick: 50, 150, 200 or 300 %. A new file opens at 200 %. Above 100 % a soft limiter holds the loudest peaks under −1 dB, so you can make audio louder without distortion. The wave shows the sound before and after, with the softened peaks marked.

Even out a playlist

Even it out measures how loud the whole file sounds in LUFS (loudness as ears hear it, not the highest peak) and brings it to −14 LUFS, the level of streaming music. A quiet file gets louder, a loud one softer, so songs from different albums play at one level. The gear also offers −16 LUFS for podcasts and −23 LUFS for TV and radio.

Turn a song down

Move the slider below 100 % to make a song quieter, for example music that must sit under a voice. At 0 % the file is silent.

Which level to pick

  • A quiet voice memo: 200 to 300 %. Listen for hiss, because it gets louder too.
  • Songs for one playlist: Even it out at −14 LUFS, file by file.
  • A podcast episode: Even it out at −16 LUFS, like most shows.
  • Music under a voice-over: 20 to 40 %, so the words stay clear.

Formats and quality

  • Opens MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG and other audio your browser can play.
  • Saves in the same format by default. MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC and OGG are all on offer.
  • The quality is matched to the original, never lower. You can change it behind the gear.
  • M4A needs a browser with an AAC encoder, such as Chrome or Safari.
  • For a video, use the video volume tool: it keeps the picture as it is.
