Voice recorder

Record your voice from any microphone and save it as an MP3. The recording stays on your device: we never receive or store it.

Saved as MP3 · no time limit

Your privacy comes first

Your contracts, passport scans and family videos stay yours. No one but you gets to see them.

  • We never store your files

They don’t even reach us: your phone or computer does the work. Nothing to delete later.

  • 100% free

No daily limits, no file-size cap, no paid Pro plan.

  • No sign-up

No account to create, no email to give. No account, nothing to hack.

How it works

  1. Start recordingPress Start recording and allow the microphone when the browser asks.
  2. Pause or stopPause as often as you like. Press Stop when you are done.
  3. Trim and saveDrag the edges to cut what you don’t need, pick a format and save the file.

Record audio online on a laptop, phone or Chromebook

A voice note, a voice-over for a video, a lecture, a quick mic check. You need a microphone: the one in your laptop, a headset or a USB mic. Nothing to install, no account, no daily limit.

Silence at the edges is cut for you

When you press Stop, the voice recorder looks for quiet at the start and the end. A stretch below −50 dB that lasts at least 0.3 seconds is removed, and 0.1 s of it stays so the first word isn’t clipped. Want every second? Turn off “Remove silence at the edges”. A pause in the middle is easy to cut later in the MP3 cutter.

Which format to pick

You choose after Stop, on the same screen where you trim. M4A and OGG use encoders built into the browser, so not every browser offers all four.

  • MP3 at 192 kbps: the default, a small file that plays anywhere.
  • WAV: no compression, good if you will edit the sound later.
  • M4A: fits iPhone, Mac and Apple apps.
  • OGG: the smallest file of the four.

If the tab closes halfway

The voice recorder writes the next piece of audio to your device every 5 seconds. If the tab closes or the battery dies, open the page again and it offers to recover the take. Some browsers, and most private windows, can keep it only in the page’s memory. Then a note asks you to keep the tab open until you save.

Tips for a clean take

  • Plugged in a headset or a USB mic? Pick it in the Microphone list after you allow access.
  • Watch the hint by the meter. “Too loud” means move back, “Quiet” means come closer.
  • Echo cancellation and noise suppression are on, so a laptop mic in an ordinary room sounds fine.
  • On a phone, keep the page on screen. Switching apps pauses the recording, and one tap resumes it.
