Reverse audio

Reverse audio in a few seconds: a song, a voice message or a sound effect plays backwards. Turn the whole file around or only one part. The file stays on your device, and we never receive a copy.

MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG and more · the sound of a video too

How it works

  1. Open a fileChoose an MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC or OGG file, or a video.
  2. Choose the partLeave the handles at the ends for the whole file, or drag them in.
  3. Save itPress Save audio. The format stays the same unless you change it.

How to reverse audio: all of it or one part

A reverse cymbal before a drop, a backwards guitar line, a voice that sounds like a spell, a reverse song challenge with friends: each starts with sound played the wrong way round.

The whole file or one part

With the handles at the ends, the whole file is turned around. Drag them to pick a word, a beat or a chord: only that part plays backwards, and the rest stays as it is. The selected length is shown under the wave, and Whole file puts the handles back at the ends.

An exact mirror

The sound is reversed sample by sample, so the result is a true mirror of the original and just as long. Nothing is sped up, slowed down or cut, and the volume stays the same. Reverse it again, and you get the original back.

Play a song backwards: ideas

  • A reverse cymbal or a reversed reverb tail as a riser before the chorus.
  • A backwards message hidden in your own track, for fun or for a puzzle.
  • A sound effect for a video, a game or a podcast intro.
  • A guess-the-song round: reverse a chorus and let your friends guess.

Formats and tips

  • Opens MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG and the sound of videos.
  • The reversed file comes out in the source’s format, unless you choose MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC or OGG.
  • Long files work too: the sound is read in small pieces, not all at once.
  • Drag a handle and you hear the sound under it, which helps you catch the exact start of a word.
  • For a smooth riser, select a cymbal hit or a held note together with its fading tail.
  • Want a short clip? Cut the song in the MP3 cutter first, then flip the piece you kept.
