Change audio speed

Speed up a podcast, an audiobook or a voice message, or slow down a song, from 0.5× to 2×. Your file stays yours: we never receive or store it. Voices keep their natural pitch unless you want the tape effect.

MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG and more

Change audio speed without the chipmunk voice

A podcast goes by quicker at 1.5×. A fast lesson is easier to follow at 0.75×. A dance routine often needs the song a little slower or faster. The page opens at 1.5×, a good start for speech.

Speed up audio without changing pitch

By default the sound is time-stretched: it gets shorter or longer, but voices and instruments keep their pitch. A fast lecture doesn’t sound like a cartoon, and a slowed song stays in tune. The stretching is done by Signalsmith Stretch, an open-source algorithm that runs on your device.

The tape effect

Switch on Change pitch with speed and the two move together, like on an old cassette: faster sounds higher, slower sounds deeper. That’s how nightcore and slowed versions of songs are made.

Speeds you can choose

  • Slower: 0.5×, 0.75× and 0.9×, to learn a song or transcribe an interview.
  • Faster: 1.1×, 1.25×, 1.5× and 2×, for podcasts, audiobooks, lectures and voice messages.
  • Speech stays clear even at 2×. Music with many instruments sounds best between 0.75× and 1.25×.

How long the result will be

  • The new length is shown next to the speeds before you save.
  • A 30-minute episode lasts 20 minutes at 1.5× and 15 minutes at 2×.
  • A 3-minute song lasts 4 minutes at 0.75× and 6 minutes at 0.5×.
