No account to create, no email to give. No account, nothing to hack.

How it works

  1. Choose WebP picturesPress Choose images or drop the .webp files from Downloads, up to 50 at once.
  2. Check background and qualityTransparent parts turn White unless you pick Black or Another colour. Quality starts at High.
  3. Save as JPGPress Save image; a batch comes as one ZIP. Every card shows the old and the new size.

Why websites give you WebP, and how to get a JPG

WebP is Google’s image format for the web. Online shops, news sites, Google Images and WordPress blogs serve it because pages load faster. Right-click and save, and the WebP is what lands in Downloads. Browsers open it; older photo viewers, some versions of Office, photo kiosks and plenty of upload forms don’t.

Expect a bigger file

WebP squeezes a photo harder than JPG for the same look, so the way back costs space. In our test a 466 KB WebP of an 8.8-megapixel aerial photo became a 1.04 MB JPG at High, 2.3 times larger. Good or Smaller file under the gear bring it down, at a small cost in fine detail.

What carries over

  • The picture and its size in pixels, unchanged
  • Transparent areas, such as around a product cut-out or a sticker, filled with the colour you pick
  • Only the first frame of an animated WebP: a JPG is always a still
  • No camera data or location: they are not copied

JPG, or something else?

  • JPG: to open, print, put into a document or upload where WebP is refused.
  • PNG: when the see-through background must stay, for a logo or a sticker.
  • Keep the WebP: if it is going on your own website, it is already the lighter file.

Limits

Both formats are lossy, so the JPG is a second compression of an already compressed picture. At High you will hardly see it; at Smaller file edges soften. We put no cap on file size, but a phone may run short of memory on a huge picture.
