Crop a video for Instagram

Crop video for Instagram to the tall 4:5 post shape or a classic square. You decide what stays in the frame, not the app, and the file stays yours: we never receive or store it.

MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and more · any video this device can play

Your privacy comes first

Your contracts, passport scans and family videos stay yours. No one but you gets to see them.

  • We never store your files

They don’t even reach us: your phone or computer does the work. Nothing to delete later.

  • 100% free

No daily limits, no file-size cap, no paid Pro plan.

  • No sign-up

No account to create, no email to give. No account, nothing to hack.

How it works

  1. Choose a videoOpen it from your phone or computer. The 4:5 Post frame is already on it.
  2. Pick the shape and place the frameKeep Post, or tap Square for 1:1, then drag the frame.
  3. Save and shareSave the video and post it. Nothing gets cut off by the app.

Which aspect ratio to use for an Instagram post

When a video doesn’t match a feed shape, Instagram crops it on its own, often not where you would. Crop it yourself first and you decide what people see.

Instagram video sizes

Instagram keeps changing how it shows videos, so keep the main subject near the center.

  • 4:5 portrait, 1080×1350: the tallest feed shape and the most screen space per post.
  • 1:1 square, 1080×1080: the classic look, safe for carousels mixing photos and video.
  • 9:16 vertical: for Reels and Stories. Use the TikTok page, which sets that shape.

Getting the framing right

  • From a horizontal video, 4:5 keeps a little under half the width. Put the frame on the faces.
  • From a vertical phone video, 4:5 trims a strip at the top and bottom. Keep heads inside.
  • In a carousel, every slide takes the shape of the first, so crop all videos the same way.
  • Press Preview to watch the crop before saving.

The profile grid

Since early 2025 the profile grid shows posts as narrower 3:4 thumbnails. A 4:5 post loses a thin strip on each side there, a square loses more. The full post still plays in the feed, but keep text and faces away from the left and right edges.

Resolution you get

Cropping keeps the original pixels and never stretches them.

  • A vertical 1080×1920 phone video becomes exactly 1080×1350, the size Instagram recommends.
  • A horizontal 1080p video becomes about 864×1080, which Instagram shows without trouble.
  • A 4K video gives a larger frame; the app resizes it when you post.

Before you post

  • Filmed sideways? Rotate it first, then crop.
  • Trim it to the moment that counts. Short posts hold attention better.
  • Heavy file? Compress it after cropping, so it uploads faster on mobile data.
