Crop a video for TikTok

Crop video for TikTok to a vertical 9:16 frame that fills the phone screen, and use the same file for Reels and Shorts. Your clip stays yours: we never receive or store it.

MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and more · any video this device can play

How it works

  1. Choose a videoOpen a horizontal or square video. The 9:16 Story frame appears on it.
  2. Move the frame onto the actionDrag it to the person or object that matters, then press Preview.
  3. Save and postSave the vertical video and upload it to TikTok, Reels or Shorts.

How to make a horizontal video vertical

A horizontal video posted as it is shows up as a thin strip with empty space above and below. Cropping it to 9:16 fills the screen. From a wide shot the slice keeps only about a third of the picture, so where you put the frame matters most.

One 9:16 shape for three apps

TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts all use the same vertical 9:16 frame, so one crop works everywhere. Each app sets its own length limit. If your clip runs too long, trim it before or after cropping.

What to keep in the frame

  • Keep faces and hands inside. The edges of the scene are what you lose.
  • Leave room at the top and bottom, and along the right edge: the apps put captions and buttons there.
  • If the subject walks across the shot, find the spot where it stays in view longest.
  • Use the arrow keys for small moves. Hold Shift to move faster.

TikTok video size you get

Cropping keeps the original pixels and never stretches them. A 1920×1080 video becomes about 608×1080, and a 4K one about 1216×2160. The apps scale it up to the screen: fine on a phone, a little softer than footage filmed upright.

A lighter file

Only the part inside the frame is saved, and the bitrate shrinks with it. A vertical slice of a wide video usually comes out at a third of the original size or less, so it uploads faster on mobile data.

Already vertical or square?

Phone videos filmed upright are usually 9:16 already and need no crop. A square video loses less than a wide one: 9:16 keeps a bit over half its width.
