How it works

  1. Choose a videoFrom your phone or computer. It plays silent, as it will be saved.
  2. Check what goesThe whole sound goes by default. To silence only a part, mark it on the strip.
  3. Save videoThe silent copy is ready in about a second.

How to mute a video

Wind, traffic, a TV in the background, a private conversation: sometimes the sound of a clip is better gone. The page takes the sound track out and leaves the picture alone. A crossed-out speaker in the corner of the player reminds you that the saved file will be silent.

Remove audio from video in one go

  • Open the video and press Save video. The sound track is taken out of the file.
  • The picture isn’t encoded again, so quality, length and framing stay the same.
  • Even an hour-long recording is ready in seconds, and the file gets a little smaller.
  • The copy gets “-muted” at the end of its name. The original stays as it was.

Mute only part of a video

Tick “Mute only a part” in Settings, and a strip of frames appears under the player. Move the yellow handles. The panel shows the exact time of the silent part, to a tenth of a second. Only that stretch goes quiet, with 5 ms ramps at the edges so nothing clicks. The rest of the sound is saved again as AAC (Opus in a WebM), so this takes a few seconds.

When a silent clip makes sense

  • A background video for a website or a slide.
  • A recording with a private talk or a phone number heard behind you.
  • A screen recording where the microphone caught typing or a barking dog.
  • A clip you will put music or a voice-over on later.
  • A swear word in the middle of an otherwise fine video.

Formats

  • MP4 stays MP4, MOV stays MOV, WebM stays WebM.
  • Phone videos, screen recordings and downloaded clips all work.
  • A video that is already silent has nothing to remove, and the page says so.
