How to sign a PDF without printing

To sign PDF files here, you make the signature once and place it like ink on paper. Nothing is kept: the signature is gone when you close the page.

Three ways to make a signature

  • Draw: with a finger on a phone, a mouse or a stylus. Lines come out smooth.
  • Type: your name appears in a handwriting font, in Latin or Cyrillic letters.
  • Photo: sign on white paper and take a picture. The paper turns see-through, so only the ink shows.

Ink and date

Choose black or blue ink. Turn on Add today’s date to write the date under the signature, in the same colour.

Initials on every page, a full signature on the last

To sign PDF pages one by one, place the same signature on as many of them as you need. Each placement can be moved, resized or removed before you save.

Drawn into the page

On saving, the signature becomes part of the page content. It can’t slip or be dragged off in a viewer, and it prints exactly as it looks on screen.

Good to know

  • Only your signature and the date are added; the rest of the page stays as it was.
  • A PDF that asks for a password to open has to be unlocked first with Unlock PDF.
  • The original file stays unsigned; you save a signed copy.

What kind of signature this is

It is a simple electronic signature: a picture of your signature, like signing a printout and scanning it. There is no certificate behind it, so it is not a qualified or certified digital signature. Most forms, applications and private agreements accept it; a notary or a government office may not. If unsure, ask the receiver what they need.
