PNG to WebP with transparency intact

Screenshots, logos and interface pictures for a website or docs, lighter than PNG and with the see-through parts still see-through. Your files stay yours: we never receive or store them.

PNG files only · other formats open in “Image converter”

Your privacy comes first

Your contracts, passport scans and family videos stay yours. No one but you gets to see them.

  • We never store your files

They don’t even reach us: your phone or computer does the work. Nothing to delete later.

  • 100% free

No daily limits, no file-size cap, no paid Pro plan.

  • No sign-up

No account to create, no email to give. No account, nothing to hack.

How it works

  1. Choose the PNG filesPress Choose images or drop up to 50 of them. A JPG or another format is turned away, with a link to the Image converter.
  2. Check the qualityThe panel says Saved as WebP, and the gear starts at High so text stays crisp. Good makes the files smaller still.
  3. Save the WebP filesA single file downloads by itself; several come as one ZIP, and you see the size before and after.

Turning PNG graphics into lighter WebP

PNG is the default for screenshots, logos and anything with sharp edges or a transparent background. It is also heavy: a full-screen Retina capture easily runs to a megabyte. WebP stores the same kind of picture, transparency included, in fewer bytes, and every current browser shows it. Converting PNG to WebP suits help centres, landing pages and online docs full of screenshots.

What we measured

  • A 2880×1800 Retina screenshot of a text-heavy documentation page: 821 KB as PNG, 610 KB as WebP at High (26% less), 479 KB at Good
  • A 1024×1024 app logo with transparent corners: 25 KB as PNG, 20 KB as WebP, the corners still transparent

Why High is the starting point

The WebP made here is lossy, like a JPEG, only smarter. On photos that is invisible. On small text and thin lines a low quality can leave faint smudges around the letters, so the page opens at High. Look at the result at full size; if it is clean, try Good for an extra fifth off.

Transparency, edges and colour

  • Transparent and half-transparent pixels are kept, so a logo still sits on any background
  • Flat colour areas stay flat; gradients come out smooth
  • An animated PNG keeps only its first frame
  • Text metadata inside the PNG is not carried over

When to keep the PNG

  • Pixel art and mockups where every single pixel must stay exact
  • App icons, favicons and store listings that require PNG
  • Files you will keep editing in a design app: keep the PNG as the master copy
  • Sending a screenshot in a chat: messengers handle PNG fine and recompress anyway

Limits

Up to 50 files at a time, with no size cap from us. Pictures above 16.7 megapixels take longer. In Safari the page writes WebP with its own built-in encoder, since Safari can’t make WebP by itself; that is a little slower but gives the same files.
