How to put text on a video

Many people scroll with the sound off, so a few words on screen tell them what they are watching. To add text to video here you install nothing and create no account, and the result carries no watermark of ours.

Add a caption step by step

  • Choose the video. It opens in the editor with “Your text” on the picture, already selected.
  • Type straight on the video and drag the words where they belong.
  • In the text panel pick the style, the size and the place: top, middle or bottom.
  • On the timeline, stretch the caption’s bar to set when it appears and goes. A new caption lasts 3 seconds.

Several captions on one clip

Press Add text for each new caption. Each one has its own place, style and time. Duplicate a caption to keep the same look, then change only the words.

Three styles

  • Title: large bold white letters with a soft shadow, in the middle.
  • Caption: white words on a dark rounded box, at the bottom.
  • Label: dark words on a white plate, at the top.
  • Long lines wrap by themselves; past three lines the text gets smaller so it still fits.

Text people can read

  • Short lines read faster than long sentences.
  • Keep words away from the very edges, where TikTok and Instagram put buttons and names.
  • Put the words over a calm part of the picture.
  • Leave a caption on screen long enough to read it twice.
